"My name is Benjamin Homer. I'm a digital design student currently studying at Nottingham College. My goals for this course was to further develop and explore my digital drawing and writing skills, and to learn and understand more about East Asian culture in a way that will help to benefit me in the working world. I have sort to make creative contacts in Asia and learn different Japanese art styles to help conceptualise my own Manga characters. I have a deep love for Chinese culture and history, with my favourite books being 'The Painted Veil' by W. Somerset Maugham and 'Letter from China' by Peter James Froning. This course has allowed me to research Chinese history in great depth, which gave context to my Manga concepts; most notably learning about 'Zheng He', the famous Chinese sea captain and combining his story with cyberpunk, to appeal to a modern audience and merge the western and eastern cultural traditions"
